    Mitlenatch Island Bird Sanctuary
    Located just south of Quadra Island, Mitlenatch Island, meaning calm water all around in Coast , is accessible only by boat. This provincial nature park encompasses 36 hectares of land, 119 hectares of water and contains the largest seabird colony in the Strait of Georgia. The park boundary extends 300 metres (1000 ft) from the shore, protecting all marine life within this area. This park is extremely ecologically sensitive and visitors are not permitted to leave the trails, nor are bikes permitted.

    Mount Norman Regional Park
    This regional park boasts the highest viewpoint on South Pender Island, Mt. Norman, at 244m. The challenging hike up will be rewarded by magnificent views of the other Gulf Islands and San Juan Islands. This park is connected to Beaumont Provincial Marine Park.

    Mortimer Spit
    This natural spit of land is an ideal area for walkers, beach picnickers and those launching car-top boats and kayaks. Swimming is also an option.

    Gulf Islands National Park
    Established in 2003, Gulf Islands National Park consists of a number of former provincial parks, including McDonald Park, Sidney Spit Marine Park, D'Arcy Island Marine Park, and Beaumont Marine Park. The park contains 15 larger islands as well as islets and reefs that are spread throughout the southern portion of the Gulf Islands. Potential activities include, but are not limited to, fishing, boating, kayaking, hiking, swimming and camping.

    Sandy Island Marine Provincial Park
    This marine park is set off the northern point of Denman Island. Sandy Island is filled with rare plants and numerous bird species. Kayak enthusiasts may find paddling the waters enjoyable. One can reach Sandy Island Marine park by boat or by foot at low tide (note: guests should be aware of the tides, in order to avoid being stranded in the park).

    Surge Narrows Provincial Park
    Surge Narrows Provincial Park is located on the south end of Maurelle Island, east of Quadra Island off central Vancouver Island. With its high tidal changes and many reefs, this park has ideal conditions for marine life. Sea urchins, sea cucumbers, sea stars and anemones flourish in these prime conditions. Random wilderness camping is permitted on the upland portions of the park, which is undeveloped and has no facilities. This park offers opportunities for ocean fishing – rock fish and salmon are the main species.

    Dionisio Point Provincial Park
    Dionisio Point Provincial Park is situated on scenic Galiano Island, and is only accessible by boat. Pebble and sand beaches, meadows filled with wildflowers and tidal pools rich with intertidal life are characteristics of the park. There is evidence that First Nations used the area more than 3,000 years ago. Today, many people frequent the park to indulge in scuba diving, kayaking, wildlife viewing and walk-in camping.

    Smelt Bay Provincial Park
    This park is a great attraction for boaters who wish to paddle the calm waters of Smelt Bay. The pebble beach offers breathtaking scenery. Day use facilities as well as overnight camping are available. The park is located on the southwest side of Cortes Island, 15 km south of the Whaletown Ferry Terminal.

    Small Inlet Marine Provincial Park
    Small Inlet Park is located at the northern tip of Quadra Island and offers boaters a protected anchorage before passing through the tidal rapids of the Discovery Passage, Okisollo Channel and Hole in the Wall. Contained within the park, Newton Lake provides ample opportunity for swimming, picnicking and lakeshore strolls. This park does not provide facilities.

    Mount Parke Regional Park
    Filled with various birds and wildflowers, Mount Parke Regional Park is a popular picnic destination. Within the boundaries of the park is Mount Parke, the highest point on the island (185 m). Hiking the trail is well worth the effort, as the reward is awesome views of neighbouring islands and the bays. The trail takes approximately 45 minutes to climb.

    Sandwell Provincial Park
    Visitors to this park on Gabriola Island can spend a day fishing, swimming and taking a stroll on the short walking trail or along the sandy beach. The park has a picnic area with pit toilets and an information shelter.

    Beaumont Marine Provincial Park
    One of the most frequented marine parks on the Gulf Islands, visitors to Beaumont Provincial Marine Park may picnic, boat-in camp, fish, canoe or kayak. Several walking trails exist, including a trail up Mount Norman, where one can view other Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands.

    Mill Farm Regional Park
    Visitors to this 65ha park, which is on the western side of Mount Bruce, can hike the Mount Bruce Trail and be rewarded with views Saanich Inlet, Cowichan Bay and the Southern Gulf Islands. Along the way there may be opportunities to see the various endangered plant and animal species that live in the park.

    Read Island Provincial Park
    Read Island Provincial Park encompasses old-growth and second-growth forest, bog and fertile lowlands and protects important high density Bald eagle habitat. See a wide variety of wildlife including river otters, seals and sea lions along the water’s edge, and black-tailed deer, weasels, mink, beaver, cougars and wolves in the uplands. The park is an excellent spot to see Bald eagles, who nest in the tall trees. There are no designated campsites at this park, however random wilderness camping is allowed. No facilities are provided and there is no fee. Read Island is accessible year round.

    Winter Cove Provincial Park
    Situated at the northwest end of Saturna Island, this park is considered 91-hectares of paradise. Amongst the abundant Douglas fir trees, wildflowers, waters and shore, one can find kayakers, hikers and fishers enjoying the serenity. The park is one km from the ferry terminal and has day use facilities.

    Bodega Ridge Provincial Park
    Bodega Ridge Park’s high cliffs are home to bald eagles, peregrine falcons and turkey vultures. Unique sandstone formations on the water’s edge below support large wildflower populations, which are known for their splendour and can be enjoyed by passing boaters and paddlers. The highlight of this day-use only park is a 4 km (2.5 mi) ridge rising 328 m (1076 ft) above sea level. The top of the ridge can be reached in approximately 30 minutes via a trail that leads uphill along the top of Bodega Ridge, through a forested area and along the cliff edge. From the top, hikers will be rewarded with spectacular vistas of Trincomali Channel, Vancouver Island and the Strait of Georgia.

    Gabriola Sands Provincial Park
    Gabriola Sands Park is also referred to by locals as Twin Beaches Park, which is also the name of the shopping centre located close by. Home to the annual Sand Castle Competition, this beach is one of Garbriola's most popular. Facing west is the Taylor Bay portion with playground, picnic, pit toilets and water pump. In low tide, visitors can take a stroll along Taylor Bay (to the left) to see the Malaspina Galleries, which are large limestone formations.

    Helliwell Provincial Park
    Situated on St. John’s Point, this provincial park features a stunning array of old-growth Douglas fir and Garry oak trees, as well as blankets of wildflowers, which are best viewed in late April and early May. Climb the Helliwell Bluffs for dazzling views of the Coast Mountains, the Strait of Georgia and various marine life. Helliwell has a lovely hiking and walking path, and paddlers can launch from the beach.

    This 40 acre oceanfront park offers campsites, picnic tables and launch sites for kayaks and canoes. In addition to the park, Descano Bay has an adjoining 113 acre community park with trails.

    Mount Maxwell Provincial Park
    This park has a number of maintained hiking and walking trails, one of which leads to the summit of Mount Maxwell called Baynes Peak. It is the highest point on Salt Spring Island and those who make the hike will be rewarded with views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Hiro Strait, the San Juan Islands, the Olympic Mountains, Mount Baker, Washington State and mainland British Columbia.

    Wakes Cove Provincial Park
    In June 2002, Wakes Cove Provincial Park was created on Valdes Island. The property is within the heavily settled coastal Douglas fir ecosystem and contains a stand of old growth as well as arbutus trees, Garry oaks and endangered plant species. It supplies a sheltered anchorage in the north end of the Southern Gulf Islands and offers hiking trails, picnicking, wildlife viewing and overnight camping for kayakers and other visitors in small boats.

    Fillongley Provincial Park
    This small (23 hectares) provincial park is situated on the northeast side of Denman Island. Fillongley is brimming with some of the largest Cedars and Douglas Firs in the region, as well as wildflowers in the summer. Ocean swimming, lounging on sand or pebble beaches and picnicking are all popular activities. An all year campground is in the park.

    This park protects a spectacular waterfall that cascades from Cassel Lake directly into the ocean. Teakerne Arm offers a protected anchorage and access to a warm, fresh water lake for swimming or fishing.

    Ballingall Islets Nature Park
    A group of Double-crested Cormorants nest in the Juniper trees in this park, which is located off Galiano Island and Parker Island. The area was made a nature park to protect the Cormorants, and visitors who wish to view the birds are urged to do so from afar so as not to disturb them.

    Surge Narrows Provincial Park
    Known for its strong tidal currents and violent waves, paddlers are warned to avoid paddling the waters of Seymour Narrows altogether and only attempt Surge Narrows at slack tide. Boaters should be experienced and well versed in the areas tidal changes as the water can reach speeds of up to 16 knots. These high tidal changes and many reefs sustain an abundance of marine life including sea urchins, sea cucumbers, sea stars and more. Camping is permitted on the upland portion of the park, but there are no facilities.

    Jedediah Island Provincial Marine Park
    This marine park is located on the Strait of Georgia, between the islands of Lasqueti and Texada. Paddlers or boaters can access the park from the shores near Nanoose Bay. Swimming in the bay on the northeast side of the park is pleasant. A truly majestic experience is to wilderness camp on the island (but please do not leave a trace).

    Wallace Island Marine Provincial Park
    Wallace Island Marine Provincial Park, is located in beautiful Trincomali Channel between the northern ends of Saltspring Island and Galiano Island. Facilities are limited to an information shelter, water, pit toilets, picnic tables and 18 walk-in campsites at the designated camping areas of Conover Point, Chivers Point and Cabin Bay. Campfires are not permitted. A small dock is available at Conover Cove, as well as an octagonal dinghy dock at Princess Bay. Sheltered anchorage and stern tie rings are available in Conover Cove and Princess Bay.

    Bellhouse Provincial Park
    Located on Burrill Point, Bellhouse Park is a small day-use park with excellent views of Active Pass, Mayne Island and the Strait of Georgia. A short trail leads from the parking lot to the rocky shoreline, where visitors can try their hand at fishing, explore the rock formations or watch the seals, otters, and occaisionaly whales. Bellhouse Park is only a short walk north from the ferry dock at Sturdies Bay on Galiano Island, and the route is well marked.

    Mouat Regional Park
    This park is a short walk from the village of Ganges on Salt Spring Island. There are a number of short hiking trails that wind around the park's streams and ferns. Facilities include picnic tables, toilets and running water. The park also has a Frisbee Golf course.
